About the place
The building was originally used for breeding rare merino sheep. Later it was used for breeding up to twenty cows, and their housing in the rotunda was strictly arranged so that the cows stood in the stalls with their heads facing the visitors, who watched them from the circular hall through a glass barrier. Probably from the 1870s onwards, horses were bred at the New Court and stabled in the Liechtenstein monument. The development of horse breeding required further building modifications, in particular in 1887, stables for draught cattle were built in the north-west wing, for horses and oxen. It was not until the 1980s that thought began to be given to restoring the buildings. The monument is inaccessible and privately owned. There is a TIC and a small refreshment offer.
