Lichtenstein Chapel in the middle of the forest
About the place
The pseudo-Gothic chapel was built by Prince Alois II from sandstone blocks, transported by rail from Vienna and Eggenburg, as a place to hold masses for the success of game hunting. Its dominant feature is the statue of Saint Hubert, patron saint of hunters and marksmen, but also of opticians and mathematicians. The chapel is the last building built by the Liechtensteins in the Lednice-Valtice area. On the feast of Hubert, the so-called Hubert's Mass is regularly held here, which is associated with a hunting parade of dogs and birds of prey.
