Artificial castle ruins

showWholeWeekBtnIcon

About the place

The largest artificial ruin in Europe was designed and built between 1801 and 1802 as a hunting lodge for the Liechtenstein lords. The structure of this seemingly etched stone gives the impression that the castle has stood here for many centuries. The castle also has lounges, which are used by the town of Podivín. Nearby is an important cycling and pedestrian link through the Boar's Game Preserve and also a river boat port to the castle park in Lednice.

Local Tips

  • Availability

Try something else. You can walk and cycle here from several directions and you can continue almost anywhere because of the strategic location of the castle. You can also get here by car from the road connecting Lednice and Podivín. But what about taking a boat trip from the castle park across the Castle Dyje, which offers beautiful natural scenery. You can also try a carriage ride to the Moorish waterworks in the castle park.

  • Picnic

Have a picnic on a warm summer evening near Jan's Castle and the banks of the river Dyje. The pleasant atmosphere and tranquillity is inviting. Don't forget to clean up your rubbish. There are many rubbish bins in the area.
