About the place

The chateau greenhouse in Lednice is the oldest still standing greenhouse in Europe and one of the most famous in the Czech Republic. The plants were imported from South America and were chosen so that something blooms in the greenhouse in every season. Its history dates back to 1842, when Prince Alois II abolished the wooden orangery and in its place he and the architect Jiří Wingelmüller built this now technical monument. It measures 92 metres long, 13 metres wide and 7.5 metres high.
